نهضت ترجمه متون فلسفه یونان به زبان عربی در قرون دوم و سوم هجری، بهویژه در دوره خلافت منصور دوانیقی، موجب شد فرهنگ اسلامی در قرون چهارم و پنجم هجری با ظهور فیلسوفانی چون ابن سینا درخشش بسیار یابد. فلسفه غرب، دستکم از قرن هفدهم، در مسیری حرکت کرده است که با آنچه در فلسفه اسلامی داریم، تفاوت ماهوی دارد و اگر بخواهیم شناخت عمیقی نسبت به آن داشته باشیم، نیاز داریم به اینکه یا مسلط بر زبانهای غربی باشیم یا از ترجمه متون اصلی فلسفه غرب استفاده کنیم. به هر حال متون فلسفی غرب به زبانهای مختلف مثل انگلیسی، آلمانی و فرانسوی نوشته شدهاند و یک پژوهشگر فلسفه بهرغم تسلط بر زبان انگلیسی، برای آشنایی با آثاری که به زبانهای دیگر اروپایی نوشته شدهاند، نیازمند کمک مترجمان است. در این مقاله اهمیت ترجمه متون فلسفه غرب و برخی الزامات آن بیان شده است.
