Abstract
This article adopts a philosophical-critical approach to reconsider the concept of education and the idea of the school in the contemporary world. By tracing the historical development of education from the Greek concept of paideia to the modern school, the author argues that education's aim has shifted from cultivating virtue and citizenship to serving economic functions and producing human resources. Influenced by instrumental rationality and neoliberal logic, the modern school has become more a mechanism of discipline and standardization than a space for nurturing free and creative individuals. In response, the article proposes three fundamental ideas: reviving the notion of the teacher-philosopher, moving education beyond the exclusive framework of the school institution, and strengthening critical thinking among educational leaders, teachers, and policymakers. The study concludes that future education should focus on forming responsible, free, creative, and participatory human beings.
